The Happytime Murders (2018)

If you're looking to laugh I would highly recommend  The Happytime Murders. The absurdity of a crass puppet movie is just what the world needed. I was laughing the whole time and the story was engaging too. Twists and turns as well as some good old cop drama.
The Happytime Murders succeeds because it pays attention to the details. Each joke is set up expertly and you're immersed in their world quickly. Maya Rudolph's character, Bubbles was my favorite. Shes the dedicated secretary you always saw in those noir dramas way back when. Melissa Mcarthy was her usual self and it fit well in such an over the top comedy.

I've always liked puppets and seeing a different side of them was pretty cool.

Chuck Season 1 (Series 2007-2012)

Geek meets spy. Chuck Bartowski is a normal dude working at the Buy More in their service department  The Nerd Herd. He is implanted with government secrets and is assigned to the care of agents Casey and Walker.
The format is bad guy of the week which is fine because I like that sort of thing. Though the show is able to be digested on an episode by episode basis there is a season wide plot. The characters are well defined and feel real even though at times they are caricatures of existing tropes. Chuck is your awkward geek with a heart of gold. Sarah is your super spy who just might want a normal life. Casey is a character who seems to be a jab at the hardcore republican types. The only one who can really be a bit much at times is Chuck's best friend Morgan.

Lucy (2014)

Human potential is the defining narative of Lucy. What WOULD happen if we were able to reach that potential. This film was visually stunning and the story was very engaging. While it took a hard turn to science fiction I think it did an amazing job of making it's world seem plausible.

Scarlet Johansen is amazing in this film. Her portrayal of the title character Lucy from abject normalcy to the pinacle of human potential is wonderful. At each stage we are reminded that this is the same girl we have known the whole film. She becomes much more than what we were initially given.

The efects and the locations were outstanding but what grabbed me was the jail sequence and the beautiful camera work.

Lucy is not just another sci fi romp it is more.
